We take reading for pleasure very seriously at Mount Anville.
We believe that embedding a reading culture in our school will bring about an overall improvement in the literacy skills of our students in a fun and engaging way. We believe that children who read for pleasure perform better in school. One of our literacy targets is that our students will read at least two books per term to encourage them to develop a habit of reading for pleasure.
One of our initiatives is to encourage all of our students to join the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown (DLR) Public Library service. Becoming a member of the library will give your daughter access to thousands of books and other wonderful materials. In addition, it will also give her instant access to its fantastic digital library which includes free eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines. All she needs is a library card and PIN number. As your daughter is under 18, a parent/guardian must complete the registration process with her. Please click here to start the online registration process. Alternatively, you may visit your local library in Dundrum to obtain a library card and PIN number. If your daughter is already a member of this library, please contact your local branch to obtain a PIN number.
During your daughter’s regular library classes, she will learn how to set up and use the digital library on her school iPad. In particular, she will learn how to use the BorrowBox and Libby apps.
Please note that the print and digital collections of the DLR public library service are independent and Mount Anville School has no role in the selection of books and other material contained in their print and digital collections. Parents are advised to be aware of and to discuss reading matter with their children (as their primary educators.)
