During Senior Cycle it is worth spending some time researching this question. Click on the above link for some useful websites to get you started. Many of these resources contain self-assessment tests which may help you narrow down your list of careers. Don't forget that your Careers Library has lots of careers resources which may help. Don't forget to attend the lunchtime talks arranged by your Guidance Counsellors.
There are many paths to a particular career. Click above and have a look at these useful websites and compile a full list of all the possible qualifications that will lead to your chosen career.
Click above and check out these useful websites. Check the content of each course and satisfy yourself that it is the one for you.
All is not lost if you feel that the required CAO points for your course is too high. Is there an alternative path you could take to achieve your chosen career? Is there a level 6/7 that you could consider which will lead you to a place on your desired course? Don't forget to check your qualification against the National Framework of Qualifications. Each college has its own requirements for recognising prior learning. For example, here is a link to UCD's policy on progression from level 6/7.
